Available Aid Types

BIR provides a financial aid package, based on federal guidelines, using a combination of grants and low interest direct loans from the U.S. Department of Education. Aid is awarded in the same order as presented below.

Pell Grant 07 - 08 Academic Year

  • Does not have to be repaid
  • Eligibility determined by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Annual Awards for the 2007-08 School Year $400 - $4,310

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

  • Does not have to be repaid
  • Available to all students receiving Pell Grants
  • $100 - $600 per academic year

Subsidized Direct Stafford Loan

  • Must be repaid
  • U.S. Department of Education pays interest while borrower is in school and during grace and deferment periods
  • You must be at least a half time student
  • $3,500 first academic year and $4,500 second academic year

Unsubsidized Direct Stafford Loan

  • Must be repaid
  • Borrower is responsible for interest during life of the loan
  • You must be at least a half-time student
  • Financial need is not a requirement
  • Maximum of $4,000 for the first and second year

PLUS Loan

  • Must be repaid
  • Available to parents of dependent undergraduate students who are enrolled at least half time
  • Maximum amount is cost of attendance minus any other financial aid the student receives

Other sources of financial aid

  • In addition to federal student aid, you may be eligible for a state, local, or institutional grant. Speak with a counselor or financial aid specialist for more information.
