Change your visa status

For applicants currently in the US on a different visa applying for an F-1 student visa

1. Fill out BIR’s application and academic history/credentials
2. Submit F-1 Student Documents and Fees
   • Copy of Form(s) I-94
   • Copy of Passport
   • Copy of Entrance Visa
   • Proof of Available Funds
   • Form I-539 (application for change of status)
   • $100 Enrollment Fee
   • $250 Application Fee
   • $400 International Student Tuition Deposit
   • $200 SEVIS Fee
3. Obtain I-20 from BIR
4. Mail the following documents to the USCIS (California Service Center)
   • Form I-539
   • Form I20
   • Copy of Form(s) I-94
   • Copy of Passport
   • Copy of Entry Visa
   • Proof of Available Funds
   • SEVIS Fee Receipt
   • $300 USCIS Fee (cashiers check or money order)
5. Wait for approval
6. Take an Assessment Test and attend Orientation
7. Start Class!
