BIR's Program

BIR’s Health Information Technology program provides comprehensive training in procedural and diagnostic coding; medical terminology and anatomy; manual and electronic billing as well as medical office administration. You will develop medical office management skills, learn to process medical claims using the latest medical billing software, and learn to code medical diagnoses and procedures.

Industry Certification

BIR prepares students for the National Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam.

What is Medical Office Administration?

Medical Office Administration includes tasks necessary for the efficient operation of medical practices. Activities include maintenance of patients’ medical and financial records, scheduling procedures, and other administrative duties.

What is Medical Billing?

Medical Billing is the practice of billing patients and insurance companies on behalf of a healthcare provider. This includes processing medical insurance claims, filing electronically, and managing patient accounts.

What is Medical Coding?

Medical Coding involves diagnostic and procedural coding of patients’ medical records. The medical coder is responsible for accurately coding medical claims to insure that the healthcare provider receives maximum reimbursement for services provided.
