The TOEFL Internet Based Test (iBT®) and the IELTS are today’s most popular tools for measuring English fluency. Universities and employers know that a strong score on either of these exams shows a readiness for success in fast-paced English speaking environments.

TOEFL-iBT® and IELTS preparation at BIR consists of 6 modules that offer a pathway to a high score and assist students in academic and professional pursuits. The 6 modules include 3 test practice modules (Gateway, TOEFL-iBT® Practice and IELTS Testing) as well as 3 university level skills modules (Speaking/Listening, Reading, and Writing).  Each module includes lectures, practice exams, workshops, study groups and access to a drop-in Study Hall.  In addition to these modules, BIR offers a unique group of seven testing preparation labs that help students extend their knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, oral argumentation, effective reading and academic writing.
As a member of BIR’s unique and vibrant learning community, students can choose from the selection of modules and test preparation labs offered to create the test preparation path that serves their individual scheduling needs.  BIR’s comprehensive approach prepares students for American universities and professional licensing programs as well as for careers in the global marketplace.

Workshops and Labs

BIR offers workshops in the 4 major categories of topics represented on the TOEFL-iBT® and the IELTS (Arts, Life Science, Physical Science, and Social Science) and 7 Test Preparation Labs focused on related language skills development.  BIR believes that exposure to significant events and concepts in various academic areas expands student vocabulary and knowledge in ways that, translate into higher TOEFL-iBT® and IELTS scores.

Tutoring

The Learning Center offers one-on-one and small-group tutoring, workshops, online resources and conversation groups. These services are included with tuition.
